There have only been a few times in my life when I’ve found myself unable to get a piece of art out of my head. The first was Franco Zefferelli’s Romeo and Juliet, which I had pretty much on repeat on our VHS player from age 3 to 5. I know. Weird. I didn’t know what any of the words meant, but I was completely entranced with the music and the beauty and bawled my eyes out on each and every viewing. (As a side note, I cannot watch it to this day without sobbing, much to my kids’ amusement).…

One woman, one audience member, no script. This is a crazy experimental and exciting idea I’ve had for a while but have only just gotten the guts to make happen! In developing the idea I’ve employed the help of the fantabulous TJ Mannix – Head of the New York Musical Improv Festival and an all round legend I was very excited to meet last year during my mad overseas jaunt. Anyway, the resulting show will be launching this Friday night at the amazing Queensland Cabaret Festival! It’s one night only and tickets are 20% off if you book online. Would…

So last year I had this mad idea to create a completely improvised cabaret. I wasn’t even sure if such a thing existed but through the magic of the internetty place, I was able to find some amazing mentors and teachers, in the form of Jason Kravits, Ashley England and the dudes at North Coast Improv Hip Hop to name a few, to help me take the first steps to actually making this happen! The resulting show is called “Fully Made Up!” and is an incredibly silly hour-long romp entirely created from audience suggestions. I’m working with two amazing musicians (my…

With last year’s chain of events leading to my life becoming one big ferris wheel of death, divorce and interstate moves, I have opted out of performing at any festivals early this year in favour of recovering! However, I am instead having the pleasure of seeing shows a-plenty on the other side of the stage…and loving it…at this year’s Brisbane Comedy Festival, on now at Brisbane Powerhouse. I’ll be blogging my highlights here. It’s fun to be an audient again!  Speed: The Movie, The Play Pop quiz, hot shot. You have an insanely ambitious idea to adapt the blockbuster 90’s flick…

Everything hurts. Kicking off from the ABC Radio studios, where I chatted about this nutty plan and comedy stuff with the lovely Spencer Howson, Friday saw us spend almost 8 hours around the streets of Brisbane with a prammed-up puppet accepting gold coin donations down her gullet. We were very sensible – I had my back strapped, we factored in lots of breaks for stretching and resting and with the help of fellow comedian Damian Cosgriff, we were supplied at checkpoints with water, snacks and encouragement! So, how did it go? Well, we got lots of strange looks, met tons…
